Author Introduction:
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, (1859–1930) Scottish author, Irish mother. Father was born in Edinburgh. He also studied medicine. But due to his writing talent, his fans encouraged him to write a series of detective stories. As a result of this, his first series of detective stories were published in Britain's Strand magazine in 1891-93. The series became so popular that Dial had to reintroduce his own detective, Sherlock Holmes, whom he had killed off. Apart from this, his other books 'Rodney Stone', 'Lestiward' and 'Poison Belt' are quite famous.
The specialty of Sherlock Holmes stories is that even today they are a fundamental source for learning and teaching the art of detective work. The stories of Sherlock Holmes are being presented in various series.
Introduction to Sherlock Holmes:
Sir Arthur Conan Dial did not write anything about the personal life of his famous detective Sherlock Holmes. Yet the accounts of Holmes and Dr. Watson's conversations while solving various cases reveal that he was born around 1854.
According to Holmes, he discovered his art of discovery (or rather smelling) during his college studies. Initially he worked as a novice, then on the insistence of his class friend's father, he thought of making his research his business. He worked as a consultant at the university for six years, but due to financial constraints, he and Dr. Watson opened their own office at 221-B Baker Street. Where he also met his customers, police officers and other concerned persons. Holmes worked with Dr. Watson for about 23 years. The last story featuring Holmes was written in 1908.

सर आर्थर कॉनन डायल, (1859-1930) स्कॉटिश लेखक, आयरिश माता। पिता, इडिबर्ग में जन्मे थे। उन्होंने डाक्टरी की पढ़ाई भी की। लेकिन उन की लेखन प्रतिभा के कारण उन के प्रशंसकों ने उन्हें जासूसी कहानियों की श्रृंखला लिखने के लिए उत्साहित किया। इस के फलस्वरूप उन की जासूसी कहानियों की पहली श्रृंखला ब्रिटेन की स्ट्रेंड पत्रिका में 1891-93 में प्रकाशित हुई। यह श्रृंखला इतनी प्रसिद्ध हुई कि डायल को अपने जासूस शरलॉक होम्स जिस का उन्होंने अंत कर दिया था, उसे दोबारा प्रस्तुत करना पड़ा। इस के अतिरिक्त उन की अन्य पुस्तकें 'रोडनी स्टोन', 'लेस्टिवर्ड' व 'पाइजन बैल्ट' काफी प्रसिद्ध हैं।
शरलॉक होम्स की कहानियों की यही विशेषता है कि वे आज भी जासूसी सीखने व सिखाने की कला के लिए मूलभूत स्रोत हैं। शरलॉक होम्स की कहानियों को विभिन्न श्रृंखलाओं में प्रस्तुत किया जा रहा है।
शरलॉक होम्स का परिचयः
सर आर्थर कॉनन डायल ने अपने इस प्रसिद्ध खोजी जासूस शरलॉक होम्स के व्यक्तिगत जीवन पर कुछ नहीं लिखा था। फिर भी विभिन्न केसों के हल करते समय होम्स और डा. वॉटसन के आपसी बातचीत के विवरणों से पता चलता है कि उस का जन्म लगभग 1854 में हुआ था।
होम्स के अनुसार उस ने अपनी इस खोजी या पता करने (या कहिए सूंघने) की कला को अपनी कालिज की पढ़ाई के दौरान ही ढूंढ़ा था। शुरूशुरू में उस ने नौसिखिए के रूप में कार्य किया फिर अपनी इस खोजी विद्या को अपनी क्लास के मित्र के पिता के आग्रह पर ही उस ने अपना व्यवसाय बनाने का विचार किया था। छह वर्षों तक उस ने विश्वविद्यालय में सलाहकार के रूप में कार्य किया, लेकिन पैसे की तंगी के कारण उस ने डा. वॉटसन के साथ मिल कर 221-बी बेकर स्ट्रीट पर अपना कार्यालय खोला। जहां पर वह अपने ग्राहकों व पुलिस के अधिकारियों व अन्य संबंधित व्यक्तियों से भी मिलता था। होम्स ने डा. वॉटसन के साथ लगभग 23 वर्षों तक कार्य किया। होम्स को ले कर अंतिम कहानी 1908 में लिखी गई थी।
