Short Description Of The Book:

Kamban, who can perhaps be called the greatest Tamil poet, lived in the ninth century AD. His great poetry has maintained its hold over the centuries; Because they poetically express those timeless problems which arise in every era and whose answers will continue to attract the human soul till the end of the century. He has been rightly called Kavi Chakravarti.

 Edward Luders, a famous American poet, after reading the English translation of Kamban, says, "Even a quick reading of these quotations makes it clear to me that the translator is working on a poet and epic of a high order. Poet for universal humanization." Kamban's special grasp connects even highly emotional matters with human subtlety."

 The author is Madras High Court judge, Justice S. Maharaja is a great lover of Kamban and his poetry and this booklet will bear testimony to that.

कम्बन्, जो संभवतः महानतम तमिल कवि कहे जा सकते हैं, नवीं सदी ईस्वी में हुए थे। उनके महान् काव्य ने शताब्दियों पर अपनी पकड़ बनाए रखी है; क्योंकि वे उन कालातीत समस्याओं का काव्यमय उच्चार करते हैं जो हर युग में उद्भूत होती हैं और जिनके उत्तर कल्पान्त तक मानव-आत्मा को आकृष्ट करते रहेंगे। उन्हें ठीक ही कवि- चक्रवर्ती कहा गया है।

अमरीका के एक प्रसिद्ध कवि एडवर्ड ल्यूडर्स कम्बन् के अंग्रेजी अनुवाद पढ़कर कहते हैं, "इन उद्धरणों के शीघ्र- वाचन से भी मुझे यह स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि अनुवादक उच्च-स्तर के कवि और महाकाव्य पर काम कर रहा है। विश्वजनीन मानवीकरण के लिए कवि कम्बन् की विशिष्ट पकड़ उच्च भावात्मक बातों को भी मानवीय सूक्ष्मता से संबद्ध कर देती हैं।"

लेखक, मद्रास उच्च न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश, न्यायमूति एस. महाराजन्, कम्बन् और उनकी कविता के एक महान् प्रेमी हैं और यह पुस्तिका उसकी गवाहीदेगी ।
