Short Description Of The Book:
From a distance I could hear the excited noises of my cousins returning from the market. They all ran to Grandfather in the library. There were two purposes for his coming there. Firstly, they wanted to show that they wanted to hear more stories from Grandfather. Secondly, they wanted to harass me by telling me that by not going to the market, I was deprived of many things. But they did not know that by staying at home with grandfather instead of going to the market, I got only one benefit. Little did they know that I would make those special moments spent with my grandfather the treasure of my life.
Once again we sat down with grandfather to listen to the next story. This was a new story for my cousins but I had to understand what was there in Kautilya's Arthashastra.
Grandfather's way of weaving the story before telling the real story was very interesting. He used to narrate the scenes as if they were happening before our eyes and we were living in the same time. He had the amazing ability to make our imagination fertile.

बाजार से वापस हो रहे मेरे चचेरे भाई-बहनों के उत्तेजना से भरे शोरगुल मुझे दूर से ही सुनाई देने लगा। वे सभी दादाजी के पास दौडे-दौड़े पुस्तकालय में आए। वहां पर उनके आने के दो मकसद थे। एक तो वे यह जताना चाहते थे कि वे दादाजी से और भी कहानियाँ सुनना चाहते हैं। दूसरा वे मुझे यह बताकर सताना चाहते थे कि बाजार न जाकर मैं बहुत कुछ से वंचित रह गया। लेकिन वे नहीं जानते थे कि बाजार न जाकर दादाजी के साथ घर पर रहने से मुझे लाभ ही लाभ मिला है। उन्हें क्या मालूम कि मैंने दादाजी के साथ बिताए उन खास लम्हों को अपने जीवनभर की पूँजी बना लूँगा।
एक बार फिर हमलोग दादाजी के पास अगली कहानी सुनने के लिए बैठ गएरा मेरे चचेरे भाई - बहनों के लिए यह एक नई कहानी थी मगर मुझे यह समझना था कि कौटिल्य के अर्थशास्त्र में क्या है।
असली बात बताने से पहले कहानी का ताना-बाना बुनने का दादाजी का ढंग बहुत ही दिलचस्प था। वे इस अंदाज़ में दृश्यों का बखान करते थे जैसे वे हमारी आँखों के सामने घटित हो रहे हों और हम उसी समय में जी रहे हों। हमारी कल्पनाशीलता को उर्वरा बनाने की उनमें अद्भुत क्षमता थी।
