पुराण भारत तथा भारतीय संस्कृति की सर्वोत्तम निधि हैं। ये अनन्त ज्ञान-राशि के भण्डार हैं। इनमें इहलौकिक सुख-शान्ति से युक्त सफल जीवन के साथ-साथ मानवमात्र के वास्तविक लक्ष्य-परमात्मतत्त्व की प्राप्ति तथा जन्म-मरण से मुक्त होने का उपाय और विविध साधन बड़े ही रोचक, सत्य और शिक्षाप्रद कथाओं के रूप में उपलब्ध हैं। इसी कारण पुराणों को अत्यधिक महत्त्व और लोकप्रियता प्राप्त है, परंतु आज ये अनेक कारणों से दुर्लभ होते जा रहे हैं।
कालिका पुराण की महिमा
जो एक बार भी इस कालिका पुराण का पाठ करता है वह सभी कामनाओं को प्राप्त करके अमृतत्व अर्थात् देवत्य को प्राप्त किया करता है। जिससे मन्दिर में यह लिखा हुआ उत्तम पुराण सदा स्थित रहता है, हे द्विजो! उसको कभी विघ्न नहीं होता जो पुराण सदा स्थित रहता है, हे द्विजो! उसको कभी विघ्न नहीं होता। जो प्रतिदिन इसका गोपनीय अध्ययन करता है जे कि यह परम तन्त्र है। हे द्विज श्रेष्ठों! उसने यहाँ पर ही सम्पूर्ण वेदों क अध्ययन कर लिया है। इस कारण से इससे अधिक अन्य कुछ भी नहीं है। विलक्षण पुरुष इसके अध्ययन से कृतकृत्य हो जाता है। इसके अध्ययन तथा अवण करने वाला पुरुष परम सुखी तथा लोक में बलवान् और दीर्घ आयु वाली भी हो जाता है। जो निरन्तर लोक का पालन करता है और अन्त में विनाश करने वाला है। यह सम्पूर्ण भ्रम या अनम से युक्त है मेरा ही स्वरूप है, अतएव उसके लिए नमस्कार है। योगियों के हृदय में जिसका प्रपञ्च प्रधान पुरुष है, जो पुराणों के अधिपति भगवान् विष्णु और वह भगवान् शिव आप सबके ऊपर प्रसन्न हों। जो उग्र हेतु है, पुराण पुरुष है,
