Short Description Of The Book:
It is a joyful topic that a research paper entitled "Nalacharitam in Sanskrit literature" by Dr. Ichcharam Dwiveda Mahabhaga, a professor of young poetry and a devotee of Sura Bharati, is coming to light. This thesis was presented to Dr. Dwiveda Mahabhagena in 1683 AD under the title of Vidyavaridhi of the National Sanskrit Institute. In 1684, this great man was awarded the title of Research.

I am delighted that Dr. Dwiveda Mahabhaga is a poet on the one hand and a poetry critic and a scientist on the other. The review presented by this great personality in the ten chapters of his research thesis based on the story of Nala, which covers ancient poems and other books on the character of Nala, opens up a new dimension in the world of Sanskrit research. Earlier, scholars have presented their views as independent texts based on the Naisadhiyacharita by Sri Harsha, “Nalayanam” by the Jaina poet Vimanikya Chandra Suri and some other works on the story of Nala. The dissertation of Dr. Dwiveda Mahabhaga is unique in that it contains a comparative study of many texts on the story of Nala in a single book. Even Jain poets have accepted the character of Nala as an excellent example for the promotion of their religious principles. Some authors have described Nala’s suffering along with his glory and prosperity, but Sri Harsha, in his epic poem Naishadhiyacharita, has described his aesthetic and happy ending. प्रमोदावहो विषयोऽयं युवकवेः प्राध्यापकवर्यस्य सुरभारतीसमाराधकस्य डा० इच्छाराम द्विवेदमहाभागस्य "संस्कृतवाङ्मये नलचरितम्" इति शीर्षक: शोध प्रबन्धः प्राकाश्यमुपयाति । डा० द्विवेद महाभागेनायं शोधप्रबन्धः राष्ट्रिय संस्कृत संस्थानस्य विद्यावारिधिरित्युपाधये १६८३ ईसवीयेऽब्दे प्रस्तुत आसीत् । १६८४ तम ईसवीयेऽब्दे अयं महानुभावः शोधोपाधिनालंक्रियत ।
काव्यप्रणयनस्य शास्त्र चर्चायाश्चान्योन्य सम्बन्धः । कवयः काव्यानि रच- यन्ति सहृदयाः समालोचकाश्च तानि काव्यानि शास्त्रदृशा समीक्ष्य तेषां मूल्या- नं कुर्वन्ति । कदाचित् रचनाकार: शास्त्रकारान् सिद्धान्तविशेष निर्माणार्थ स्वप्रतिभावलादनुरूपद्धि, कदाचिच्च शास्त्रकृदाचार्यः कवीन् रचनासौष्ठवार्थ- मनुशास्ति । इत्थं ये काव्यं कर्तुं विचारयितुञ्च जानन्ति तेषां पारस्परिकविम- शेण साहित्यपरम्परा समृद्धि भजति । हर्षावहमिदं यद् डा० द्विवेद महाभाग एकतः कविरपरतश्च काव्यसमीक्षकः शास्त्रज्ञोऽस्ति । अनेन महानुभावेन स्वशोधप्रबन्धस्य दशस्वध्यायेषु नलचरितपरकानि पुराणानि काव्यानि तथा चान्यानि पुस्तकानि व्याप्य स्थितां नलकथामवलम्ब्य या समीक्षा प्रस्तुता तया संस्कृतशोधजगति कश्चिन्नूतन आयाम: समुद्घाट्यते । इतः पूर्व श्री हर्षकृतं नैषधीयचरितमवलम्ब्य जैनकविमाणिक्यचन्द्रसूरिविरचितं “नलायनम्” अन्यां- श्च कांश्चित् नलकथापरकात् ग्रन्थानमवलम्ब्य विद्वद्भिः स्वतन्त्रग्रन्थरूपेण स्व विचाराः प्रस्तुताः । डा० द्विवेदमहाभागस्य शोधप्रबन्धोऽयं विशेषो यदत्र एकस्मिन्नेव ग्रन्थे नैकेषां नलकथापरक ग्रन्थानां तुलनात्मकमध्ययनं लब्धुं शक्यते संस्कृतस्य पाठकैः जिज्ञासुभिश्च पुण्यश्लोकस्य नलस्य वर्णने महाभारत- काराणां पुराणकर्ता णाञ्च कवीनां कथाकतृ णाच्च महती रुचिरवर्तत । जैनकवि- भिरपि स्वधर्मसिद्धान्तानां प्रचारार्थ नलस्य चरितमुत्कृष्ट निदर्शनरूपेणाङ्गी- कृतम् । कैश्चित् रचनाकारैः नलस्य वैभवसमृद्ध्या साकं दुःखस्यापि वर्णनं कृतं किन्तु श्री हर्षेण नैषधीयचरितमहाकाव्ये तस्य शृंगाररसप्रधानं सुखान्तं वृत्तमुप- निबद्धम् । अद्यत्वे द्यूतबहुलेऽस्मिन्युगे नलचरितस्य काचित् सामाजिकप्रासंगिकता......
