हिरण अचानक निस्तब्ध हो गया; शायद उसे अनहोनी का आभास हुआ होगा। असहजता से पैर घसीटते हुए, उसके हांफने की आवाज़ राम सुन सकते थे। कुछ पल बाद वह फिर से पत्तियां चबाने लगा। उसका बाकी झुंड थोड़ी ही दूरी पर था, जो घने जंगल की वजह से दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था।
